It is with a tremendous amount of sadness that Evangeline and I are starting our former #GrayMay Brain Cancer Awareness Month fundraiser for Ochsner Cancer Institute, with the passing of our loved friend Tara Bixby. This follows a difficult few months adding Margaret Bell, bookclub buddy Angelia and just finding out about Wolfgang passing this same week.
Y’all we have GOT TO FIX THIS!
Please consider donating to our New Orleans regional hospital that has taken care of so many of our loved ones, with cures, chemo and cares.
Tara and I became close in college while enjoying going to see live music and other New Orleans shenanigans:) She had a beautiful soul, was VERY intelligent and ALWAYS showed up. Her diagnosis was a shocker for sure, and that comes from someone with sadly too much experience. Tara moved through this disease with tremendous strength and grace. As she moves on, I will always feel the blessings she gave to our lives.
Evangeline’s Story
I was 10 months old when my dad died of a 3rd time challenge with a Pineal Blastoma. My Meré passed when I was 6 from lung cancer. Other friends and family have gone, gotten through or are currently in care at Ochsner for various cancer treatment. #GrayMay is part of the National Brain Tumor Society’s awareness efforts. My dad’s birthday is May and he died on June 16th, Father’s Day, so I am using this window of time to donate Spotify and Apple Music proceeds from my first song “Perfect” by Evangeline Rose, to my community or you can donate directly to Ochsner.
Ochsner Health is a not-for-profit committed to giving back to the communities it serves through preventative screenings, health and wellness resources and partnerships with innovative organizations that share our vision.
This is possible only because our contributors’ generosity empowers Ochsner to pursue research, education and innovations in patient care and treatment that set us apart and enable us to advance healthcare for the good of our patients, our community and beyond.
Every day, donors help patients face frightening medical conditions, create opportunities to advance technology and expand research that will change the future of healthcare. As Louisiana’s largest non-profit, academic, healthcare system, the impact that our donors make cannot be understated.
